Steal
Name: Mun Geon-yeong
Birthday: December 15, 1998
Role: jungler
Steal has been a staple member of DFM ever since 2017, and he’s the third Korean player to get an LJL residency after 2021 Spring (hence the famous 2021 Spring DFM lineup with Kazu as support until Steal got residency).
His longevity on DFM is even more impressive, when you realize he’s been playing for DFM ever since Yutapon role swapped back to ADC. He was always at least among the top 3 junglers in LJL, with his style complementing DFM perfectly. Whether it was his famous 100% WR Shaco jungle, which alongside Aria’s LeBlanc ended DFM’s slump in 2021 Summer, and started their winning streak into the historic Worlds run, or his Poppy (once again, 100% WR in 2022 Spring) dominating at the start of 2022, creating jokes like “GG V3. Poppy played Steal so well.” from DFM analyst Gismo or “[…] Thank you for carrying me, Evi, Poppy, Yaharong and Yutapon.” from DFM support Harp.
His style of humor being deadpan deliveries, the viewers can be sure once he’s on camera, something funny will happen. He’s known for trolling his teammates, and is a real “tsundere”, but don’t let all that deceive you. He’s exceptionally good in seeing the game as a whole, and he’s one of the most competitive members of the team.
Running storylines with Steal
Steal and Yutapon are DFM’s designated trolls. Steal especially is very hard to please (at least, he wants you to think that) which made him known as a “tsundere”. Throughout the years, he had many reoccurring bits in various posts and videos. Whenever Evi was making vlogs on international trips, Steal always refused to talk while the camera was rolling to troll his top laner, a tradition that now other members took after him as well.
He has been living in Japan since 2017, so it’s no surprise to anyone that he’s fluent in Japanese. It’s actually quite rare to see him speaking Korean (mostly for other media outlets during MSI and Worlds), but thanks to his language skills, for the first time ever, last year he became the interpreter for Yutapon in a Korean interview with Jeesun! After the interview he tweeted: “[…] I was more nervous during the interview than in the match. I couldn’t interpret properly…”
Listing every time he trolled in interviews would be a nearly impossible job, and would just overwhelm this page. But, listing some of the best ones is a great window into his type of humor and a great forecast what to expect at MSI.
As mentioned on tol2’s page, Steal loves to tease the new member. He repeatedly mentions whenever tol2 makes a mistake, and in general likes to joke about how unfun DFM’s coaching staff is, not letting them high-five after a game, or “lying” about how he’s just a rookie in his first tournament.
